30 Aug Roude to London

30 Aug

Today we caught a train to London. We all went to the London Science Museum.

We looked at a lot of space stuff. We also went into a 3D little theatre and we were in the front seat of a RAF Red Arrow aerobatic team . It was a cool flight and the seats moved.
We also saw in a bigger 3D theatre a space flight to watch astronauts fix the Hubble telescope and a Deep Sea one. Hubble was best. There was lots of hands on stuff to play with too.

29 Aug Caen Hill Locks

Today we went for a walk along the river. It was the first time we had seen a "Lock". When the river is too steep the put Locks in it like steps on a staircase so boats can move up it. You have to open and close the big doors so you can change the water level and allow the boat to move up or down the river. We got to help the boat owners to do this, it was cool. There were 31 Locks in this stretch of river....ALOT.

28 Aug To Bath

28 Aug

Today we set off for Bath. This is a town that has hot Baths in the middle of it!!!There are natural hot springs there and people used to stop and bath there 5000 years ago. It was 2000 years ago that the Romans were clever enough to to get the hot water and make a really big Bath complex. It was good to look at , thou we did not have a bath. we were able to drink the water but it was warm and tasted horrible.
We did a river cruise on the river Avon that runs through Bath on the Putney Princess.
We looked at some of the old buildings and then went to the biggest kids play ground I have ever seen.

27 Aug Avesbury

Today we went to Avebury. This is another ring of rocks like Stone Henge but much bigger and not as famous as there are not so many really big rocks left. We also saw an old TOMB called West Kennent Long Barrow. It was a really cool cave made of rocks and heaps of people were buried there years ago.

Stone Henge - Salisbury

26 Aug

We were only about 10 mins away from Stone Henge. Some guys for reasons they can only guess about some how 4500 years ago moved these really huge rocks in to a circle so they could have celebrations or religious gatherings. Quite amazing. It also lines up with the sunsetting on the longest day in Summer.
We then went into Salisbury and had a look around. Mum made me go to this church, Salisbury Cathedral. Lots of old religious stuff inside. One thing that was interesting was the oldest clock in existence. There were lots of tombs and we got to light candles and I nearly burned myself.

Winchester-New Forest-Roude in Wiltshire

25 Aug

There was lots of driving today. We drove from Winchester to friends house in the New Forest which act is very very old. It is a huge area and has wild horses running around. WEIRD. We went for a drive to Lymington on the south coast in the rain. Friends picked us up from there and then off to ROUDE which is a tiny little village. We stayed with a family of 3 boys with more toys then Charles has got. I loved all the boy toys.

Winchester

24 Aug. Today we went for a walk around a pre Roman fort......(really really old). Then Mum needed to see a real English pub, The Mayfly. Then we walked around Winchester which is a cool old town and all the buildings are old. Mum did not make me look inside the Winchester church as I am over churches. We did have a lot of fun at the old Winchester Mill. This is a place that next to a river where the water in the river drives a big wheel and helps grind up the corn to make flour. We got to use a smaller grinder and we made our own Flour and made a white sauce for tea. We stayed there for ages.

Paris to London to Winchester

23 August... Big day today. We caught the Paris tube first to get Eurostar train to London. Then the tube to Harrods. We meet friends from NZ in the toy section. I watch this guy do magic tricks and I bought a set too. They had a toy but real car there for $20000, AMAZING, I did not get a turn in it. They also had a crystal cover Lamborghini for $3000 nz and they had some stuff you just add water to and you make your own snow. I think Harrods is better for toys then Hamleys.
Off to the Natural history museum were we saw lots of cool stuff. The best was the T REX dinosaur who actually moved. AWESOME.
We then got a tube and a train and then drove to Winchester about 2 hours west of London to see a bit of the English country side.

We got the Eurostar which is a train from London to Paris. It is very cool because it goes in a tunnel under the sea (English Channel) and pops up in France.
When we got to Paris we went straight for the Eiffel tower and we got to see heaps of Paris from the top level. It was the best thing we did in Paris.
Next day we went to the Louvre, a huge art gallery and I really liked the glass pyramid on the top. It was cool seeing the Mona Lisa. We did a Bus trip around Paris and saw the Opera house and the Arc de Triumph. It was too hot at 32 degrees to walk up it and the queue was really long. We cooled down by going for a river cruise and saw lots of the river Seine.
Day 3 was off to the Chateau de Versailles , a really huge castle and lots and lots of gold and cool fountains. Then we saw the Notre Dame and I liked the Gargoyles on the side they looked like dogs with wings. We also saw the inside out building called the Pompidou centre and also the modern art museum which had really crazy out there art.
Paris is really really cool.

Sunday, August 29, 2010

It is now the 19 th of August and another day in London.

Today we did ......Trafalgar Square. It was cool as I got to climb up on the famous Lions for photos. Next Mum made me go to the National Art Gallery. It was cool art and lots of old paintings. Lucky we did not stay too long. We jumped on the tube to St Pauls. It is the biggest church I had ever been in. If had a cool wispering gallery. Next was Buckingham palace and we actually got to see the state rooms inside. There was a lot of gold and crowns everywhere. There was even a gold crown on the lights outside in garden.

Last for the day off to the Royal Albert Hall to see a Prom and some guy playing a piano really fast. I was pretty tired then... ANOTHER BIG DAY.

It has been so busy. Here is an update on London.

The first full day I went to Buckingham palace,a Big Red Bus trip and THE EYE. I loved the EYE, it was awesome and I got a good look at Big Ben and the Parliament buildings.

We finished off the day with a river cruise on The Thames. There were 20 million bridges but the coolest one was the Tower Bridge.
